The 'Little People Project' started in 2006. It involves the remodeling and painting of miniature model train set characters, which I then place, photograph and leave on the street. It is both a street art installation project and a photography project. The street-based side of my work plays with the notion of surprise and I aim to encourage city-dwellers to be more aware of their surroundings. The scenes I set up, more evident through the photography and the titles I give these scenes aim to reflect the loneliness and melancholy of living in a big city, almost being lost and overwhelmed. But underneath this, there is always some humor. I want people to be able to empathize with the tiny people in my works.
The simplest way to describe Slinkachu is that he is a London based photographer, who likes to his identity to remain anonymous so he calls himself 'Slinkachu'. His work is both a street art installation project and a photography project.

Enjoy watching this amazing collection of Slinkachu “Little people project” photographs. Maybe you’ll find some “mini” people in your street?
Not that much is revealed about Slinkachu except that he is a very clever photographer. He has his own unique way of photography and uses tiny 1 cm figures as props in his photographs, and makes them look life like with a special twist. Once he has finished photographing his characters, he leaves them on the streets. One of his pieces "A man standing by a cash machine" lasted around 2 months. In my opinion I think that his work is brilliant, I cannot think of another photographer who has had the fore sight to take on a world wide project as different as this., its not something you would see everyday and they are not your average photographs. He has a unique and different imagination and is a very clever photographer.

The above photo is using the rule of thirds. The sign is in one third of the photo and the figures are center.
My favourite photograph that Slinkachu has produced is the main photograph on the side . I love the fact that Slinkachu has used perspective to show the figures in focus which is really effective. Slinkachu has used the camera out of focus for the background which creates a blurred effect.
This is my least favourite Slinkachu photograph because the figures are too miniature so they can barely be seen in the image. He has not used a zoom technique which means the image is not shown in the best way.
MY PLAN FOR SLINKACHU
- Figures working
- Figure stood near the library
- On concrete
- Try and make a figure look as if it is lifting a heavy weight
- Figure looks like its working
- Figure near books
- Figure near flowers
- Figure stood on food
- On gates
- On fence
PRACTICE PICTURE
Before I started to take my 'proper' photographs, I had taken various practice pictures. Ranging from a whole load of different backgrounds/scenes. As this was my first project, I was just getting used to the camera settings so the lighting is off in certain images. I found it difficult at first to get the tiny figures in focus. I practiced with a range of different shoots from Birdseye view to worms eye view. I found that experimenting was the best way for me to "get to grips" with the figures.
My FIRST TAKE PHOTO
These are my first take photos. Some of the photos are blurry from a focus point of view. At first I found it difficult to focus on the figure and to enhance or fade the background.
As you will see from the photos below, sometimes the figures were blurred and the background was clear. I realised that I was not using the f.stop correctly. It was only with dedication and patience that I managed to correct where I was going wrong.

The photos above are some of my favorite first take photos because the picture is in focus. I followed Slinkachu's style of work but used my own interpretation to create a quirky image. I knew where I wanted to go with these shots, so kept trying in my second take photos.
MY SECOND TAKE PHOTO
I am following the style of Slinkachu in this photograph but the image is blurred. In order to improve the quality of the photograph, I need to change the aperture on the camera.
I don't like this photograph because the figures appear lost in the open space around and it is blurred. I should have put the figures at the front of something, for example some grass and just got that in focus. Also, I should have changed the exposure levels to make it slightly brighter. I struggled to take this photograph and I was not at the correct angle. I tried to use a tripod but I was just to short to be able to get a good photo. I really wanted to get it to look like the figures were sat in nice, peaceful surroundings but this didn't work out.
MY BEST TAKE PHOTO
I like to call these my best photos that I have taken "Slinkachu style" because I have focused on the figures close up and blurred some of the background. I like the way that only the section of the photograph where the figures are in focus and the rest of the photo is blurred. It makes it look as if the figures are the only things important in the photo. They are also on a power spot!
The above photo is my favorite. I like to call this "The kissing couple" I have used a variety of shots and locations to make the photo much more interesting. All these photos were taken in and around my school.

I love the way that I have taken this photograph and managed to take the figures in focus and the tree to the left of the photo blurred. I think It makes it look very unique. It took a lot of patience to achieve this kind of photo as I wanted a crystal clear image of the couple and a blurred image of the tree.
I like that the petals at the front of the picture are blurred as is the kissing couple. It looks very clever. Aswell as this the picture kind of tells a story, such as a young couple hiding out in a secret garden, maybe in school or college or even in a park. Also I like that figures are on a power spot.
I like the way that instead of getting the figures in focus I blurred them and just tried to enhance the background and the lovely purple flowers at the front of the photo, for a bit of a different picture than the rest, I had previously taken. It makes you think that the figures a hiding for some reason. Your eyes are not instantly drawn to them but as you go up past the petals you notice them "blurred" into the background - like they are trying to hide from prying eyes! It makes it look very unique, as you would expect the figure itself to be in focus and not the petals.
MY FINAL PIECES
This picture is one of my favorites. It tells a story of two couples, it looks as if the figures are in their own world, surrounded by red petals, maybe in a dream?... Both sets of figures are on a power spot. Furthermore, all of the photograph is in focus, which gives the view a nice, clear image of romance and love.
This photograph is another favorite of mine. Again, I have just used the mid-section in focus which looks very strong as the pin is the main focus is in this picture. I wanted the focus on this photo to be different. The pin is the center of the image. Additionally, I love that the figure is on the side of the pin, trying to dig at it. I took this from a birds eye view.
